Sydney University Lions men’s side opened the 2019 Australian Water Polo League season with a 9-3 win over UTS Balmain Tigers at Dawn Fraser Baths on Saturday.
The defending premiers had five scorers, with Goran Tomosevic and Thomas Kearns posting trebles, while Michael Rosenthal, Christian Kyriakou and Keegan Wicken also found the back of the net.
Donat Galeev and Harry Sanderson each scored two goals for the hosts.
The Lions women’s side went down 19-3 to UTS Balmain.
The Lions will UWA at the Peter Montgomery Pool on Tuesday night followed by Queensland Thunder on Thursday and Friday night, and UWA again on Sunday afternoon.
