Sydney University progressed to the final of the 2009-10 Sydney Grade Cricket Limited Overs competition with a 25-run win over Eastern Suburbs at Sydney University No.1 Oval on Sunday.
With inclement weather threatening, the match was limited to 47 overs under the Duckworth Lewis system and the Students had no hesitation in batting after winning the toss.
With Ian Moran (76), Greg Mail (67 not out) and opener Scott Henry (52) leading the way, Sydney University posted 5-255 off their 47 overs against an attack headed by Nathan Bracken, rated the world’s best one-day bowler one summer ago.
The Students then rolled Eastern Suburbs for 231 in 43.3 overs, with Marty Paskal collecting 3-33, Ian Moran 2-25 and Greg Mail 2-45. Timothy Armstrong top-scored for the visitors with 64, while Australian representative Dave Warner threatened to cut loose before being snapped up behind the stumps by Henry for 63 off the bowling of Mail. The Students will meet Sutherland in the final on February 28.

He cracked 101 not out and collected 3-34 in Sydney University’s 70-run win over Campbelltown-Camden in the Limited Overs qualifying final on February 7 and followed that with 111 not out in the Students’ Round 13 two-day match against Sydney on Saturday.
Sydney University were 6-289 at stumps on day one of the match against Sydney, with Will Hay (46) and Mark Faraday (27) also getting among the runs.
