Sydney University Soccer Football Club’s (SUSFC) Guillaume Buckley will be competing on the new Fox 8 television show ‘Football Superstar’.

Buckley was selected as one of fifteen contestants from around Australia vying for the prize of a contract with Melbourne Victory in the 2010 A-League competition.

The French-Australian, who is known as ‘Gilly’ on the show, is a central defender for Sydney University’s under-20s team in the NSW Super League, which currently sits third on the table for the 2009 season.

He says his favourite hobby is “walking around the house kicking a football into the furniture”, and lists cricket, rugby union and ultimate Frisbee as other sporting hobbies.

The ‘Football Superstar’ contestants will be judged on their on-field and off-field performances, as they are tested through various physical and mental challenges each week.

Melbourne Victory head coach Ernie Merrick will head the judging panel for the series, alongside Victory assistant coach Aaron Healey and ‘Football Superstar’ mentor Vitale Ferrante.

The winner will receive a contract with the Melbourne club, last year’s champions and the most successful club in A-league history, and a one-year scholarship with Monash University.
