Sydney University
swimmer Matt Jaukovic set a new Australian All-Comers record in the 100 metre Butterfly
at the Telstra Short Course Swimming Championships in Melbourne on Sunday.

Jaukovic clocked a
time of 50.37s to break Geoff Huegill’s seven-year record of 50.71s set in
2001. The swim is in the top 10 fastest of all time for the event.

Montenegro-born Jaukovic,
who also won three gold medals at the NSW State Open Course Championships in
August, is also a chance of gold in the 50 metre Butterfly being held today.

“I actually hoped to swim 49 tonight but I’m
happy with that time and now really looking forward to the 50 butterfly
starting tomorrow,” Jaukovic told Swimming Australia.

Jaukovic hopes to improve even further on
these results in coming years as he focuses more intensely on swimming.

“I swam on the Serbia and Montenegro
Youth teams as a backstroker and only really concentrated on butterfly recently.
I have concentrated on my studies over the past three years and have only
really started training four times a week before increasing my workload to six
and seven sessions. I will concentrate on swimming over the next couple of
years.”
