Sydney University Rugby Club member, St Andrew’s College resident, Elite Athlete Program (EAP) member and first-year University of Sydney Bachelor of Arts student Isaac Fonua continues to make his mark on the international stage after earning selection for the Junior Wallabies second match at the 2026 U20 Rugby World Championship.

After featuring in Australia’s tournament opener against Spain, Fonau has retained his place in the squad and will take the field once again when the Junior Wallabies face Fiji in a crucial Pool D encounter.

Australia opened its World Championship campaign in empathic fashion, recording a record-breaking 90-22 victory over Spain. The performance was the highest-scoring match by an Australian side in the history that has showcased depth for the next generation of Australian rugby talent.

For Fonua, playing in the opening-round victory was a significant milestone. Now, with the opportunity to start against Fiji, the talented forward will look to build on that performance as Australia aims to continue its unbeaten start and strengthen its push toward the knockout stage.

Fonau’s selection for a second consecutive match is a testament to the progress he continues to make within Australian Rugby. Balancing the demands of elite competition with his first year of university, the Sydney Uni Sport Elite Athlete Program member continues to represent the University. As the Junior Wallabies prepare for their important pool clash against Fiji, Fonua will look to build on his opening tournament performance and help Australia maintain its unbeaten start to the championship.
