Sydney University student-athlete Andre Dubier has announced himself on the international stage, producing a series of outstanding performances at the 2026 FISU World University Cycling Championship in Zhangjiako, China, to finish among the world’s best university cyclists.
Representing Australia as part of the Australian UniRoos team, Dubier delivered an exceptional championship campaign, placing 13th in the Individual Time Trial before backing it up with an impressive 8th-place finish in the Criterium. The results cement his place among the top University cyclists in the world, a remarkable achievement for the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law student and proud member of the Sydney Uni Sport Elite Athlete Program.
The FISU World University Cycling Championship brings together the world’s best student athletes, with competitors representing their countries while balancing the demands of elite sport and higher education. The championship is recognised as one of the premier events in university sport, showcasing athletes who are often on the pathways to professional and international cycling careers.
For Dubier, pulling on the green and gold for Australia was the culmination of more than a decade of dedication to the sport.
“It is a feeling I have been chasing ever since I started racing over 10 years ago, and now it is a reality; it doesn’t feel real at all!”
That dream quickly turned into results on the world stage.
Opening the championship with a strong 13th-place finish in the individual Time Trial, Dubier demonstrated both power and composure against an elite international field. He then elevated his performance in the fast-paced Criterium, where tactical awareness, position and sprint speed are all put to the test, crossing the line in eighth place to secure a top-10 finish in the world.
Andre’s success is a testament to years of perseverance, commitment and the ability to balance elite sporting ambitions with university studies. As a member of Sydney Uni Sport’s Elite Athlete Program, he continues to exemplify what is possible when academic excellence and high-performance sport come together.
His performance in China not only represents a significant personal milestone but also highlights the strength of Australian university sport on the international stage.
Everyone at Sydney Uni Sport congratulates Andre on an outstanding championship and looks forward to following the next chapter of what is shaping up to be an exciting year ahead.
