Several Sydney University Athletics Club (SUAC) open athletes travelled to Queensland to compete at the Queensland State Championship, producing a series of impressive performances including podium finishes, personal bests and a standout victory in the javelin.
Queensland State Championship – Open Athletes
Several SUAC open athletes travelled north to compete at the Queensland State Championship, producing a number of impressive results.
In the Men’s 110m Hurdles, Austin Little demonstrated excellent form across both rounds, running 13.86 and 13.90 seconds to finish 3rd overall, highlighting his strong early- season speed and rhythm.
Georgia Fichardt also delivered a standout performance in the Women’s 100m Hurdles, recording a new personal best, an encouraging sign as she continues to build momentum this season.
In the Men’s 200m, Donovan Bradshaw impressed with two strong races, clocking 21.57 and 21.63 seconds.
The men’s 400m featured strong performances from two Sydney Uni athletes. Timothy Sanki produced a powerful run to finish 2nd in 47.28, while Alex Beck followed closely behind in 4th with a time of 48.22.
James Harden delivered one of the highlights of the meet in the 400m Hurdles, securing 3rd place while setting a new personal best of 52.67 seconds. He also lowered his personal best in the flat 400m.
In the Men’s Javelin, Cameron McEntyre made an impressive return to competition, producing a winning throw of 78.10 metres to claim 1st place.
Overall, the championship proved to be a successful trip for the travelling athletes, with multiple podium finishes.
New South Wales State Championship – Junior Athletes
SUAC’s junior athletes also delivered an excellent set of results across the Junior Athletics Championship, which took place at Sydney Olympic Park.
The U20 Men’s 400m Hurdles produced one of the most dramatic finishes of the meet, with Max Byrnes (53.179) and Billy Blair (53.180) crossing the line almost simultaneously in a thrilling finish, while Christian Kotis finished 8th.
In the Men’s 5000m walk, Alexander Sinnett produced a strong performance to finish 2nd.
Milana Henderson claimed gold in the Women’s Pole Vault, clearing 3.40m.
Sarah James won the Girls U17 High Jump with an impressive 1.66m, while Niamh Mackenzie placed 3rd in the Women’s U20 High Jump.
Violet Langley secured 2nd place in the Girls U17 100m Hurdles.
Mark Everett enjoyed an outstanding meet in the T/F38 classification, winning gold in the Discus (38.85m) and Shot Put (12.32m), while also taking silver in the Javelin.
Edwin Alder delivered a superb distance double, winning the Boys U16 3000m in 9:00.38, before backing it up with bronze in the 1500m.
In the Women’s U20 100m, Holly Rea finished 2nd in challenging windy conditions, with Kiera Krebs 6th and Sienna Flick 8th. Holly and Kiera returned for the 200m, finishing 4th and 6th,respectively.
Adelena Wright placed 4th in the Women’s U20 400m with a time of 56.60, before adding a bronze medal in the U20 800m.
The men’s U20 400m was another thrilling contest, with three SUAC athletes competing. Fred Hamblin claimed victory in 47.85, while Jakob Henriksen and Joshua Smith finished 7th and 8th. In the 200m, Joshua Smith and Jakob Henriksen finished 4th and 6th respectively.
Analin Rudd rounded out the results with a strong 3rd place in the Women’s Triple Jump, recording 11.51m.
Big Weekend in Adelaide for Field Eventers and Walkers
SUAC race walkers competed at the Australian Athletics Half Marathon Race Walking Championship, delivering strong results at the national level.
Alannah Pitcher recorded 1:42:32 to finish 3rd, while Chelsea Roberts followed closely behind in 1:42:37, placing 4th in an excellent performance from the Sydney Uni walkers.
Meanwhile, at the Adelaide Invitational there were outstanding performances from the SUAC field eventers.
Tali Batinehster finished 4th in the Women’s Javelin, producing a throw of 50.52m.
Connor Murphy claimed 3rd place in the Men’s Triple Jump with a strong 16.20m jump.
Chris Ius was part of the winning men’s 4 x 100m relay team, which raced to an impressive 38.34, as the squad continued preparations ahead of the upcoming international season.
With strong early-season performance across both open and junior ranks, the club continues to build momentum heading into the next phase of the athletics season.
