Sydney University First Grade has surged into second place on the Belvidere Cup ladder, positioning themselves as one of the genuine contenders in the 2025/26 NSW Premier Cricket season. With Manly-Warringah holding top spot, the Students sit just behind in a tightly contested race that also includes Randwick Petersham and Mosman.

The Belvidere Cup, the premier First Grade competition in Sydney and one of the strongest club competitions in world cricket, has once again showcased Sydney University’s renowned depth and consistency.

Recent rounds have emphasised the Students’ form with strong wins against Parramatta, securing a six-wicket victory over Parramatta with Fletcher May taking figures of 5/35 in the first innings. This was followed by a convincing win against Western Suburbs as Kieran Tate picked up figures of 5/34, Patrick Xie made a quick-fire 97, and Jack Hill was unbeaten on 87. Tate was able to keep his form going, taking 6/48 against Campbelltown Camden, to chase down 90 in the second innings.

Round 8 at the University Oval saw Uni post 213 before Eastern Suburbs claimed a six-wicket win, underlining how fine margins are at the top of the table and how competitive every round is.

Those results, combined with a series of solid outings through the opening rounds, have left the Students well-placed in the top two as the season moves towards the crucial December-January block. The challenge now is to maintain that momentum throughout the summer.
