Sydney University sent a 14-strong team to Melbourne last week for the Australian Short Course Championships, hauling home a huge array of medals across multiple events.
Elizabeth Gan had an impressive showing in the open backstroke events, claiming silver in the Open Women’s 50m Backstroke and bronze in the Open Women’s 100m Backstroke.
Sydney Uni’s Men’s Relay team — featuring Sebastian King, Alexander Clarence, Matthew Costelloe, and Liam West — combined for a superb swim to earn a bronze medal in the Open 4x200m Freestyle event.
In the age group category, Kalani Creech powered his way to the top of the podium with a gold medal in the Age Men’s 50m Butterfly, before backing it up with a second gold in the Age Men’s 100m Butterfly.
William Jeffery also contributed to the medal tally with a silver in the Age Men’s 100m Backstroke, further contributing to the medal tally and delivering a phenomenal performance.
Alongside the medal winners, several Sydney Uni athletes featured prominently in Open Finals, including:
- Caleb Yago – 4th in the Men’s 50m Butterfly
- Men’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay – 4th place
- Matthew Costelloe – 9th in the Men’s 50m Butterfly
- Men’s 4x100m Medley Relay – 8th place
- Sebastian King – 10th in both the Men’s 200m Backstroke and 100m Backstroke
