It’s always a tough day at the office playing Warringah at Pittwater Rugby Park, and Saturday was no exception for defending Shute Shield premiers Sydney University.

Down 13-nil, the Students clawed their way back with two second-half tries to post a 15-13 result in the Round 2 clash of the premier NSW rugby competition.

Lock Luke Ratcliffe and flanker Aidan Wearne scored Sydney University’s tries, with halfback Tas Smith landing one conversion and reserve Jac Lloyd slotting a crucial penalty goal.

Lloyd, a 20-year-old Welshman who plays five-eight for the Bristol Bears in England, made his debut for Sydney University off the bench in Round 1 at North Sydney Oval.

Prop Sateki Latu scored Warringah’s only try, which was converted by five-eight Witika Rees-Hatu, who also landed two penalty goals.

The win for the Students, who had won The Australian Club Championship a month ago in Brisbane, erased memories of the opening round 37-20 loss to Northern Suburbs.

Sydney University will host Hunter Wildfires at Sydney University Football Ground in Round 3 on Saturday.
