Sydney University Athletic Club’s three Olympians, Michelle Jenneke, Mackenzie Little and Rohan Browning, made the podium at the Brisbane Track Classic at QSAC Stadium, Brisbane, on Saturday.
Jenneke claimed gold in the women’s 100m hurdle, Little won the women’s javelin, and Browning finished with Silver in the men’s 100m at the Classic, the premier one-day track and field meet in Queensland and part of the World Athletics Continental Tour as a Silver Permit event.
Jenneke, who competed at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, won the 100m hurdle, with Celeste Mucci finishing second and Hannah Jones running third. Running in lane five, Jenneke clocked 12.80, with Mucci (12.92) and Jones (12.98) also breaking the 13-second barrier.
It was a Summer Series hat-trick for Jenneke, who also won the event at the Maurie Plant Meet (12.75) and Sydney Track Classic (12.70).
Little, a 2021 Tokyo Olympic Silver medalist, won the women’s javelin with a throw of 60.69m, with Sae Takemoto (56.28m) claiming silver and Tori Leeters (54.70m) collecting bronze.
Browning, who also competed at the Tokyo Games, ran second to Edward Osei-Nketia in the men’s 100m final at Brisbane, with Tiaan Whelpton collecting bronze. Osei-Nketia finished in 10.13sec, Browning ran 10.29sec, and Whelpton ran 10.34sec.
SUAC’s Jason McCorry also claimed gold in the men’s 110m hurdles, finishing in 13.69sec, with teammate Nick Andrews taking bronze in 13.85sec and Austin Little running 8th in 14.34sec.
And SUAC’s Cam McEntrye earned Silver in the men’s javelin with a throw of 79.05m. Felise Vahai Sosaia won the event with a 79.85m effort, with Kenji Ogura taking bronze with a throw of 78.78m.
SUAC’s other competitors at the Brisbane Track Classic included: Helen Pretorius (5th in the women’s 400m), Chris Ius (4th in the men’s 100m B race and 2nd in the 200m B race), Lachlan Raper (5th in the men’s 800m) and Joe Burgess (5th in the men’s 300m steeplechase).
SUAC will be fielding a record 66 athletes in Brisbane this weekend at Under 20 and Open Nationals Championships.
