Sydney Uni Lions Men’s Super League team drew 12-12 with ACU Cronulla Sharks in the opening round of the Sydney Metropolitan water polo season at Sydney Uni Sports and Aquatic Centre.

Tom McJannett and Jacob Mercep each scored three for the hosts, with Josef Schuler and Loui Schuler scoring doubles, while Milos Maksimovic topscored for the visitors with a six-goal haul.

The Lions followed that with a 10-6 win over the WPNSW State Team Program in a Round 2 clash at Auburn Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre. Mercep scored three and Drew McJannett posted two for the Students.

The Lions had a bye in Round 3 and will host Hunter Hurricanes on Saturday. Sydney University Lions Men’s Open Division One Metro 2 side accounted for ACU Cronulla Sharks 11-7 in their Round 1 clash at Sydney Uni Sports and Aquatic Centre. Tyler Krenkels and Thomas Oates each posted three goals for the winners, with Oscar Douglas bagging a double.

They then accounted for Drummoyne Devils 13-6 at Drummoyne Swimming Centre in Round 2 with Drew McJannett and Louis Schuler each scoring three and then towelled SNB Breakers 19-7 at home on Saturday thanks to four goals to Stefan Despotovic and three each from Krenkels, Josef Schuler and Lucas Young. The Lions Men’s Open Division One Metro 3 side opened their season with a 5-4 win over ACU Cronulla Sharks, with George-Damon Pal, Troy Racklyeft, Cory Webber, Felix Pal and Lewis Saupin scoring for the winners. They had a bye in Round 2 and came out on Saturday with a 12-8 result at SUS Aquatic Centre. Racklyeft led the scoring with three goals, while Ashton Brown, Felix Pal and Saupin each scored pairs.

The Lions Men’s Open Division Two Metro 6 side lost 7-4 to Drummoyne Reds in the season opener, while the Division Two Metro 7 side went down 8-6 to the Reds.

In the Junior ranks, Sydney University’s M12s accounted for Drummoyne 10-5 in the opening round, with Eddy Liu and Alexander Shin each posting four goals.

Sydney Uni Blue M14s beat ACU Cronulla 13-6 in Round 1, with Charlie Fannin posting five goals, while the SU Black M14s accounted for Sydney Northern Rays 16-0, with Phoenix Brown slotting four goals.

Sydney Uni Blue M16A side drew 6-all with Cronulla at Sutherland Leisure Centre in Round 1, while the SU White M16Bs lost 14-4 to Cronulla Bs. And SU Gold M18A side went down 10-5 to UNSW Wests in their Round 1 clash at Ryde Aquatic Centre, with Nash Kearny posting three goals for the winners and Hugo Riley and William Richardson scoring pairs for the Lions.

Sydney University’s Women side opened the Super League season with a tight 10-9 result over ACU Cronulla Sharks at SUS Aquatic Centre and backed that up with an 11-4 result over the WPNSW State Team Program 11-4 in which Maud Megans top-scored with five goals. They had a bye in Round 3.

SU’s Women’s Open Division One Metro -2 side opened the season with an 11-6 result over ACU Cronulla Sharks, with Aspen Henderson posting four goals for the Lionesses and Layla Barclay posting a treble for the Sharks. They then drew 7-7 with Drummoyne Devils, with Ebony Nash scoring three, and accounted for SNB Breakers 18-2 at home on Saturday. Samantha Henderson, Aspen Henderson, Ebony Nash and Jemma Potts each scored three in the big result.

The Women’s Open Division One Metro 3 side opened the season with a 7-6 loss to Cronulla before accounting for Drummoyne Devils 13-6, with Ashlee Dobell and Jemma Potts scoring trebles and Tiahna Riley, India Faber and Emma Fitzgerald posting doubles. They went down 12-4 to SNB Breakers in their Round 3 clash at SU Aquatic Centre on Saturday. Sophia Cooper and Rachel Bourgeois scored trebles for the winners.

In the Women’s Open Division Two Metro 6 competition, Sydney University Lionesses side started the season with a 12-2 win over Drummoyne at SU Sports and Aquatic Centre. Marli Williams scored five goals and Georgia Warren posted four for the winners.

The female junior ranks in the Summer Metro competition saw SU’s W12s open the season with a 13-2 win our Ryde. Anya Rashid and Lucinda Gladstone scored trebles and Zoe Kennedy and Sophia Antra scored doubles for the University.

The SU W14 Gold side opened their season with a 6-6 draw with ACU Cronulla and a 10-3 loss to Ryde, while SU’s W14 White side lost 7-4 to Ryde before accounting for Drummoyne 8-6, with Isla May scoring three and Olivia Moss scoring two for the winners.

SU’s W16B Gold side opened their season with a 17-0 win over Drummoyne Blacks, with Elizabeth Shin scoring seven, Zoe Andrea posting four and Georgie Warren scoring three. They backed that up with a 6-3 result over Drummoyne Reds on Sunday with Warren goaling twice. The W16B White side lost 5-4 to ACU Cronulla in the opening round and defeated Ryde 8-0 at Ryde Aquatic Centre on Sunday.

SU’s W18 side opened their season with a 7-4 result over ACU Cronulla, with Ashlee Dobell posting a double. They backed that up with an 8-5 result over Cronulla at Ryde Aquatic Centre on Sunday. Dobell scored four and Jemma Potts scored three for the winners, while Layla Barclay scored a treble for Cronulla.
