Penrith claimed first innings points in their Round 3 Belvidere Cup tussle with Sydney University at University Oval on Saturday, posting 141 in reply to the visitor’s first-day tally 9 (dec)-321.
Openers Nick Adams (46) and Ryan Gibson (37) set the visitors up for a solid total, with middle-order pair Brent Williams (50) and Jordan Watson (45) taking the tally to a challenging target. Henry Railz, unbeaten on 72, enjoyed some batting practice keeping the Students in the field. Ryan McElduff (3-64) and Devlin Malone (3-86) were the best of the Sydney University bowlers.
The second day of the two-day clash saw Penrith quicks Liam Doddrell (5-32) and Hunar Verma (4-37) tear through the University batting line-up, with Nick Larkin (26), Jordan Gauci (24), Charles Litchfield (23 not out) and Dugald Holloway (18) the only players to reach double figures.
The Students will meet Western Suburbs in a two-day Round 4 clash starting at Pratten Park next Saturday. Sydney University Seconds claimed first innings points in their two-day Albert Cup match with Penrith at Howell Oval. Having posted 324 on the back of Ryan Danne’s 143 on day one, the Students dismissed Penrith for 151 on Saturday.
Coming in at No.4, Danne cracked 14 boundaries and two over the ropes in his 198-ball stay. Don Butchart scored 48 to go with his 3-20 with the ball and George Barlow scored 34 and took 3-34 with the ball. Penrith claimed first innings points in the Third Grade Mitchell Cup fixture at St Paul’s College Oval.
The visitors posted 272 on day one, and rolled Sydney University for 190 on Saturday, with Oliver Zannino (51), Luka Flannigan (41) and Chris Roussos (32) as the main contributors for the hosts. Taran Finemore caused the most damage, finishing with 5-34 off his 15 overs.
Penrith also took first innings points in the two-day Reid Cup clash at Bill Ball Oval. The host’s decision to declare at 8-201 proved correct when they ousted the Students for 166 on Saturday. Morris Fredriksson topscored for Sydney University with 51, with Noah Bloch (36) and Brayden Dilley (24) the other main contributors, while Adam Burton (4-45) and Isaac Nicholls (4-61) starred with the ball for Penrith.
And Penrith Fifths earned first innings points in the David Sherwood Cup clash at Marrickville Oval. After posting 165 in their first innings, Penrith dismissed Sydney University for 107 and were 2-34 at the close of play.
Jayden Myburgh-Sisam starred with the ball for Penrith, claiming 6-39, while No.3 Raveen Ganesh topscored for the Students with 32.
Meanwhile, after their Round 1 fixture against Northern Suburbs at Birchgrove Oval was washed out, Universities Women’s Firsts lost their second round 20-over fixture against Campbelltown Camden at David Phillips Memorial Fields.
Campbelltown Camden posted 8-145 off their allotted overs and restricted Universities to 3-125, with No.3 Chaye Hartwell posting an unbeaten 38 off 40 balls.
Universities also lost their Round 3 tussle with Sydney at David Phillips Memorial Fields on Saturday. Sydney batted first and posted 8-124 off their allotted overs with Kate Barry cracking an unbeaten 30 and then restricted Universities to 99 for the loss of eight wickets. Hartwell topscored again for Universities with 26, while Erica James (25) and Frankie Nicklin (17) helped the cause.
Sydney Seconds also claimed the points finishing with 5-99 after Universities had posts 9-66 off their 20 overs.
Sydney also took the points in the Third Grade 20 over fixture at Gannons Park. The hosts posted 2-92 after restricting Universities to 5-83 off their allotted overs.
Universities Firsts will meet Gordon at Chatswood Oval in a Round 4 T20 match next Saturday.
