Together with The University of Sydney and our successful sporting clubs and programs, our Elite Athlete Program has assisted over 2500 Sydney Uni student athletes achieve excellence in academia and sport since 1990. It is one of the most well-established and successful of its kind in Australia.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. There are over 30 sports represented across the 300+ student athletes who are members of our Elite Athlete Program in 2024. However, membership is prioritised for student athletes who:
- Are training and competing in a high performance program administered by Sydney University Sport and/or a Sydney University sporting club
- Represent Sydney University in their sport (i.e. in club or intervarsity competitions)
- Compete in current or confirmed Olympic and Paralympic sports
Yes (where possible). All Elite Athlete Program members are elite or emerging athletes, studying at The University of Sydney, and represent Sydney University in their sport (where possible). All members must be endorsed by their relevant Sydney University sporting club or program (where a club/program exists). Membership is prioritised for student athletes who:
- Are training and competing in a high performance program administered by Sydney University Sport and/or a Sydney University sporting club
- Represent Sydney University in their sport (i.e. in club or intervarsity competitions)
- Compete in current or confirmed Olympic and Paralympic sports
Yes. You must be a currently enrolled student of The University of Sydney to be eligible for membership of our Elite Athlete Program.
No. The courses in which our Elite Athlete Program members are engaged are many and varied. As long as you are enrolled in undergraduate coursework or postgraduate coursework, or postgraduate research at The University of Sydney, you will be eligible for membership.
Yes. Both domestic and international students of The University of Sydney can be members of our Elite Athlete Program.
No. You will be strongly encouraged to select a study load that is appropriate for your individual circumstances. There are some factors that you will need to consider when choosing your study load each semester. For example:
- Have you been awarded a scholarship from a party which expects you to maintain a minimum study load?
- Do you have sporting commitments or otherwise that will adversely impact your ability perform to your potential in your studies?
- Are you enrolled in a degree/course in which you are obligated to maintain a minimum study load?
- Are you an international student who must maintain a full time study load for visa eligibility?
- Are you receiving Youth Allowance or any other financial assistance in which you must study full time to remain eligible?
