Sydney University maintained their outright second place on the Sydney Premier Division AFL ladder with a 48-point Round 13 win over UTS at Sydney University Oval on Saturday.
The hosts had nine individual scorers in the 72-24 result which kept them one win off competition leaders UNSW Eastern Suburbs. The Bulldogs head the table on 48 points, with Sydney University (44), North Shore Bombers (40), Pennant Hills Demons (32), East Coast Eagles (32) and Inner West Magpies (2) making up the top six.
Sydney University will host eighth-placed Camden Cats this Saturday and the Inner West Magpies on 27 July before travelling to Olds Park to meet St George Dragons on 3 August.
Round 17 on 10 August could be a minor premiership decider when Sydney University host UNSW Eastern Suburbs. They’ll then round out the competition proper hosting Pennant Hills Demons on 17 August.
Sydney University Oval proved a happy hunting ground on Saturday, with the men’s Reserve Grade, Division Three and Under 19 Division One sides taking UTS scalps, and the women’s Division Two side accounting for North Shore Bombers by 16 points.
Meanwhile, Sydney University crept into the NEAFL top six with a 50-point win over Gold Coast Suns at Blacktown International Sportspark on Saturday.
Harry Morrison kicked four goals in the 90-40 result, with Josh Stern kicking three and Tristan Davies posting two in the welcome result.
Brisbane head the NEAFL ladder on 48 points after 15 rounds, with Southport (36), Sydney Swans (36), Giants (32), Aspley (28) and Sydney University (22) making up the top six.
Sydney University have the bye for Round 16 before a crucial game against Aspley at Voxson Oval, Carseldine, on 27 July.
