Sydney University Football Club has secured its fifth consecutive First grade Premiership this afternoon, grinding out a tough 24-19 win over a valiant Randwick.

Leading 14-11 at half time, the Students were stunned early in the second half with Randwick scoring a neat try out wide. However, showing their class, the Students hit back almost immediately with a scintillating individual effort from outside centre Mitch Inman, reclaiming their lead and taking the score to 21-16.

After trading a Halangahu field goal with a Milroy penalty, the sides found themselves again separated by five points at 24-19 with almost a quarter of the game remaining. Showing the resilience that secured them the Minor Premiership, the Students defence stood strong, allowing them to hold out Randwick time and time again – and grind out a well deserved victory.

Inside centre Tom Carter was named man-of-the-match in his 102nd match for Uni, before captain Tim Davidson proudly held the premiership shield aloft for the fifth time in five years.

The win was the third for the club this Grand Final weekend, having secured the 2009 Colts I and Colts II titles at Concord Oval yesterday.
