Sydney University oarsmen Nick Hudson, Matthew Ryan and Francis Hegarty were celebrating last night after winning silver medals at the 2009 World Rowing Championships at Poznan in Poland.
Hudson teamed with Jarred Bidwell, David Crawshay, Danie Noonan to stroke the quadruple scull to second place behind Poland, while Ryan teamed with James Marburg, Cameron McKenzie and Hegarty to stroke the men’s four to second place behind Great Britain.
In a very tight finish, Poland won the quadruple scull in 5:38.33 from Australia (5:39.66) and Germany (5:39.85), while Great Britain (5:47.28) outclassed Australia (5:49.20) and Slovakia (5:51.11) in the four.
Sydney University was also represented at the world championships by Bronwen Watson (5th in the women’s lightweight double sculls), Sally Kehoe (4th in the women’s double sculls) and Sarah Cook (5th in the women’s pair).
