Sydney Uni Swimming Club Press Release

8 year old Lewis Blackburn become the first Sydney Uni Swimmer ever to qualify for all for sprint finals at the Speedo sprint final held at Bexley pool over the weekend.


Blackburn won the Butterfly, finished second in the freestyle, third in the Breaststroke and finished with the “Metro South East Area” record when he recorded a time of 42.54 for the Backstroke.


34 Sydney Uni swimmers contested the heats at Bexley with the finals coming up at Homebush Saturday the 8th of March.


Coach Vanessa Smith said “The Speedo sprint series is conducted in all four stokes for swimmers aged 8 to 13 only over the 50 meter distance.” Our (Sydney Uni) swimmers put in some very strong performances with some good personal bests” she added.


8 year old Molly McGrath qualified for her first Speedo final finishing 4th in the 50m Freestyle.


9 year old Imogen Brent finished 5th in the 50m Backstroke and 6th 50m Butterfly swimming in a personal best time to qualify for both events.


Angelique Barret 10 years improved her 50m Butterfly time by over 3 seconds to finish 6th to qualify for her first final series.


Jayce Carrano swam 2 personal best times to qualify for the 11 year 50m Butterfly and 50m Breaststroke.


12 year old Jessica Donovan qualified for the 50m Backstroke and Butterfly with very strong swims.


Edwina Blackburn swimming in her last Speedo Sprint carnival qualified in the 50m Backstroke.
