Sydney University Lions lead the Sydney Super League 3 Men’s Water Polo competition after five rounds. The Lions head the ACU Cronulla Sharks on goal difference, with Drummoyne Devils and UTS Balmain Tigers making up the top four.
The Lions defeated the Tigers 13-12 in a tough Round 5 clash at Drummoyne Swimming Centre on Saturday. Jacob Mercep slotted four goals for the Lions, Loui Schuler scored three, Caleb Millin scored two, with Thomas Oates, Toby Goldschmidt, Keegan Wicken and Tyler Krenkels scoring singles for the winners.
The Lions also head the Summer Metro 2 Open Division with four wins and a loss. The loss was a 15-8 result to UNSW Wests Magpies in Round 5. Wests Olympian Richie Campbell scored four for the Magpies while Edward Wydell scored three for the Lions. And the Lions remained on top of the Summer Metro 3 competition after their 15-2 result against UNSW Wests Magpies on Saturday. Troy Racklyeft scored four and Orlando Mina scored three for the Lions. The Lions debuted four young Lions into the first division showing depth and some up and coming exciting talent.
In another Summer Metro result, Sydney University M7s accounted for Sydney Stingers 15-2 at the Ryde Aquatic Centre on Tuesday. In the junior men’s ranks, Sydney University Blue head Under 14A ranks on goal differences from SNB Breakers, with ACU Cronulla and UTS Balmain making up the top four. The 14s defeated UTS Balmain 6-4 at Dawn Fraser Baths on Sunday with Nathaniel Santos scoring three and Charlie Fannin, Harrison Nixon and Flynn Visch also hitting the back of the net. Sydney Uni Gold 14s also had a win on Sunday, an 8-6 defeat of Ryde. Max Hole, George Kennedy and Rupert Beresford each scored doubles, with Oliver Dalzeill Bruty and Ashton Haggart also goaling. Sydney Uni White 14Bs are second behind SNB Breakers after they defeated UTS Balmain 5-3 at Dawn Fraser Baths on Sunday. Oliver Porter scored two goals, with Aubrey Cook, Gus Kineberg and Aidan Toouli also goaling. Sydney Uni Black 14Bs also had a win, a 13-8 result over Ryde. Eddy Liu scored three goals, Phoenix Brown, Carter McGee and Jack Nigel each scored two and Peter Venetoulis, Alexander Shin, Edison Whalan and George Nixon also scored goals. Sydney Uni Blue is second behind UNSW Wests Magpies on the 16A ladder after their 10-6 result over UTS Balmain on Sunday. Orlando Mina scored four for the Lions, Taj Young scored two and Ysusa Perez, Ryan Ford, Toby Graysons and Sam Rudd one each. Ryde defeated Sydney Uni Gold 4-3 in the other 16A result. In the 16B competition, Cronulla Dolphins defeated Sydney Uni White on forfeit and Drummoyne defeated Sydney Uni White 8-2.
The Lions 18A Blues head the ladder after their 9-4 result over UTS Balmain on Sunday. Tadja Pribokovic scored three, Ashton Brown and Cory Webber scored doubles and Zac Izzard and Lucas Young also goaled. UTS Balmain defeated Sydney Uni Gold 18Bs 6-3.
Sydney University also head the Women’s Super League 3 ladder after five rounds, with Drummoyne Devils, UTS Balmain and UNSW Wests making up the top four. The Lionesses defeated the Tigers 12-6 at Drummoyne Swimming Centre on Saturday. Luci Marsh and Sienna Green each scored three for the Lions, with Maud Megans and Danielle Morrissey scoring doubles and Lucy Levenberg-Penkils and Aspen Henderson also goaling.
The Lionesses also head the Division 1 Women’s 2 competition after their 10-5 result over UNSW Wests Killer Whales at the Sports and Aquatic Centre on Saturday. UNSW West Killer Whales won the Third Grade 12-1, with Gemma Allen and Nancy Lee each posting three goals.
In the women’s junior ranks, Sydney Uni 14A Blues are running second behind UTS Balmain Black after the Tigers defeated them 8-1 at Dawn Fraser Baths on Sunday. In the 14B competition, Sydney Northern Rays defeated Sydney Uni White 12-3 at the Aquatic Centre on Sunday, while [?] travelled to Dawn Fraser Baths for a 6-2 result over UTS Balmain.
UTS Balmain defeated Sydney Uni Blue 15-5 in the 16A competition, while Sydney Uni Gold drew 4-all with ACU Cronulla in the 16B ranks. Georgia Warren scored two for the Uni with Elizabeth Shin and Cassandra Davies also scoring goals. Sydney Uni lie second behind UTS Balmain in the women’s Under 18 competition after their 7-4 loss to the Tigers at Dawn Fraser Baths on Sunday. India Faber scored a treble for the Lionesses, with Ashlee Dobell also finding the back of the net.
