Four athletes from the Sydney University Athletics Club (SUAC) were selected to represent Australia at the 2025 Taiwan Athletics Open last weekend, competing as part of the national Under-23 touring team. Held in Taipei, the competition brought together elite young athletes from across the Asia-Pacific, and the SUAC contingent delivered performances underscoring the club’s reputation as a powerhouse in university sports.
Leading the charge was high jumper Alex Harrison, who soared to a gold medal with a personal best leap of 1.86 metres. Her confident and consistent jumps have made her a standout performer, and her results mark a breakthrough in her competitive career.
In the men’s 100m, Joseph Ayoade delivered a blistering sprint to finish first in 10.34 seconds, edging out a strong international field. Known for his explosive power, Ayoade’s winning time confirms his potential as one of the country’s top young sprinters.
Timothy Sanki also showed great form in the 400m, finishing sixth in 47.43 seconds. The challenging race provided valuable experience as he looks to build momentum in the 2025 season.
Unfortunately, Ethan Quintana was unable to compete after sustaining a minor injury in the lead-up to his race. While disappointed, Quintana remains positive and is focused on recovery and the next opportunity to compete.
The Taiwan Athletics Open provided a valuable opportunity for Australia’s emerging athletes to test themselves against the top international competition.
