Australia’s Luke Schofield stormed to victory at the Oceania Triathlon Super Sprint Championship, keeping the title in the family – and at Sydney University – with a commanding performance in a thrilling final at the Gold Performance Centre.

Following his brother Jayden’s footsteps, who won last year’s event, Luke delivered a composed and tactical race to edge out fellow Australian Lockie Jones and New Zealand’s Saxton Morgan.

Luke and Jayden Scholfield are proud University of Sydney alums and Elite Athlete Program (EAP) members who are continuing to make their mark on the international triathlon scene.

“Both Jayden and I love this format”, Schofield reflected after the race.” The short stuff is one of our favourite styles of racing. It’s sweet to get it this year since Jayden got it last year, so the Scho-bros maintain the title- that was the goal coming into this weekend, and we came away with that”.

The 250m swim, 7 km bike, and 1.5km run eliminator format delivered unpredictable and fast-paced racing throughout the weekend. Schofield’s path to the final wasn’t without setbacks.

“I got a flat in the heats, which wasn’t ideal”, he explained. “I went into yesterday thinking it would be a two-race day, but I had to go through the recharge, which isn’t the easiest. But I’m stoked to get the win after yesterday’s chaos”.

In the women’s final, New Zealand’s Nicole Van Der Kaay claimed the title with a dominant display, holding off Australia’s Kira Hedgeland and fellow Kiwi Eva Goodison.

The action continued in the Oceania Triathlon Mixed Relay Championship, where Team Australia- featuring Jayden Schofield, blazed to victory ahead of two strong New Zealand teams.

The weekend delivered a showcase of elite talent, with the Schofield brothers continuing to set the pace on the Oceania stage.
