Four Sydney University Water Polo Club (SUWPC) athletes have earned national honours and been named to the Australian U20 Men’s Team ahead of a major international campaign.

Sam Bloomfield, Jamie Sharman, Zac Izzard, and Lewis Saupin—all part of the University of Sydney’s Elite Athlete Program—were confirmed in the 15-man squad today. The team will be coached by SUWPC’s Dragon Bakic, a longtime figure at Sydney Uni and a key architect of the club’s continued success at both state and national levels.

Their selection underscores the strength of the Sydney Uni Water Polo program, which continues to produce high-calibre talent capable of making the jump to the international stage. All four athletes have been regular contributors across club and university competitions, with standout performances throughout the Australian Water Polo League Season.

“This is a great reflection of the development systems we have in place at SUWPC, and the commitment of the players to push themselves,” said Bakic. “They’ve earned this, and I’m excited to see how they rise to the challenge”.

For Bloomfield, Sharman, Izzard, and Sauprin, the call-up represents a significant step in their representative careers and firmly places them on the radar for future senior national team selections. The Australian U20s will now focus on upcoming training camps and international fixtures, where they’ll test themselves against some of the world’s top junior sides.

Sydney Uni Sport congratulates all four players and coach Bakic on this milestone and looks forward to following their progress in the green and gold.
