 Sydney University Athletics Club (SUAC) has emphatically reclaimed its place at the pinnacle of university athletics, delivering a standout performance at the 2025 UniSport National Athletics Championship, held on the Gold Coast last week.

In a display of relentless excellence, capturing both the G.R Hulbert Woman’s Overall Champions Trophy and the Tony Booth Men’s Overall Champions Trophy- a feat that cements the club’s dominance on the national stage. Marking a fourth consecutive women’s title and a successful defence of the men’s 2024 championship. In an even more historic achievement, both squads recorded the highest-ever points total in Uni Nationals history, with the women’s team amassing a commanding 192 points and the men’s side delivering an equally impressive 163 points.

Across three fiercely competitive days, our athletes consistently rose to the occasion, demonstrating depth, resilience, and world-class talent. The club finished with a remarkable 23-medal haul:

  • 8 Gold Medals
  • 3 Silver Medals
  • 12 Bronze Medals

Some of our outstanding Gold Medal Performances included:

  • Abigail Gilbert – 10,000m
  • Mitchell Hatfield – High Jump
  • Alex Harrison – High Jump
  • Ben Bishop – Steeplechase 
  • Tali Baltineshter- Javelin
  • Jye Perrot – 800m
  • 4 x 100m Women’s Relay (Kiera Krebs, Francesca Suigman, Alyssa Lowe, Eliza Da Silva)
  • 4 x 100m Men’s Relay 

In addition to podium finishes, two new club records were set:

  • The Mixed 4 x 400m Relay Team (Damien Mizzi, Taylah Anderson, Jess Quilter Jones, and Jye Perrott) produced a phenomenal run to set a new SUAC record.
  • Caitlin Shepperson delivered a standout performance in the women’s hammer throw, landing an enormous 51.10m to etch her name into the club’s history books.

Final Standings – Women’s Overall

  • University of Sydney – 192 points
  • Griffith University – 124 points
  • University of Technology Sydney – 122 points 

Final Standing – Men’s Overall

  • University of Sydney – 163 points
  • University of Technology – 107 points 
  • University of New South Wales – 81 point

With standout performances in sprinting, distance running, jumps, throws, and relays, the University of Sydney Athletics Club showed exactly why it is the country’s best. It wasn’t just about the medal—every athlete played their part to push the team forward.

This result is a huge moment for the club, adding to its proud history and setting a new standard for what’s possible.
