Sydney University’s own Rohan Browning has once again stamped his authority on the national sprinting scene, winning the men’s 100m at the Australian Athletics Championship over the weekend in Perth.
Clocking an electric 10.01 seconds- matching his personal best – Browning edged Lachlan Kennedy by just 0.005 seconds in a nail-biting finish. Both were officially recorded at 10.01, but Browning’s dip at the line sealed his third national title.
For the Sydney Uni Elite Athlete Program (EAP) representative, the win marks an emphatic return to top form following a challenging few years of injury setbacks since his breakout performance at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
“There might have only been a handful of people in the stadium tonight who thought that would be possible,” Browning said post-race.” You only need to believe in yourself”.
As one of the most recognisable names in Australian track and field- and a proud Sydney Uni Alum, Browning’s win is a personal triumph and an inspiration to the next generation of student-athletes striving to balance elite athlete sport with academic ambition.
With the 2025 World Athletics Championship in Tokyo on the horizon and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games further ahead, Browning’s form is peaking at just the right time, as he leads the charge for Australian sprinting – and Sydney Uni will be behind him every step of the way.
