Sydney Uni Sport’s annual Sport’s Awards night returned last week, recognising the achievements, dedication that power the Sydney Uni Sport community in 2024. Here are some of the highlights of how highly devoted individuals and clubs.

Sydney Uni Gymnastics took out this year’s award with a creative, community-driven workshop series. Led by Caitlin Hargraves and a passionate team, the program delivered 15 unique sessions—from aerial circus skills to handstands—empowering over 60 students to step up as participants, coaches, and leaders. A brilliant display of inclusive sport in action.

Claudia Choi of Sydney Uni Taekwondo has transformed her club’s post-COVID culture, combining strong leadership with hands-on coaching. From a standout Welcome Week to national competitions, Claudia’s commitment across events, socials, and athlete support has shaped a thriving, tight-knit community.

JoAnn’s role as Operations Manager has been central to Water Polo’s growth and the upcoming merger of men’s and women’s teams. With tireless work across scheduling, finances, and team logistics, she’s built a strong foundation for a unified future—while wearing many hats as a long-time volunteer and parent.

Teki’s 20+ years of experience came to the fore in 2024, guiding SUFC’s Women’s 10s, 15s, and Juniors to undefeated seasons, while also earning silver with UniSport Nationals teams. His leadership across programs and pathways is shaping the future of rugby at Sydney Uni.

SUAC had a powerhouse year—claiming UniSport Nationals titles, dominating state competitions, and celebrating 12 Olympians and Paralympians. With Nicola Olyslagers making history and a future-focused pathway in full swing, SUAC remains one of the university’s most elite and inspiring clubs.

It was gold all around for the Sydney Uni Table Tennis Club, with both the Men’s and Women’s teams crowned 2024 National Champions after undefeated campaigns. The Men’s team defended their 2023 title, while the Women’s team made history, jumping from silver to gold. A phenomenal result driven by relentless training and elite teamwork.

After 17 years of service, Ben’s leadership took his club to new heights in 2024—securing premierships, launching a student development team, and expanding the club’s reach through community memberships and fundraising. His dedication and innovation continue to drive long-term success.

Jack led Sydney Uni Netball Club through its most successful season ever—winning Nationals gold, five premierships, and the Teal Cup. His inclusive leadership, player mentorship, and campaign planning made a massive impact both on and off the court.

SUNC saw explosive growth in 2024, expanding from 14 to 20 teams, winning five premierships, and bringing home Uni Nationals gold. They also shone off the court—with major events, fundraising, and national partnerships showing the strength of their culture and community.
