Sydney Uni Sport – Sports Awards were held on Wednesday night where it has been announced Connor Murphy OLY, Rae Anderson PLY, and Noémie Fox OAM as it’s 2024 Man and Women of the Year, following standout seasons that redefined excellence on national and international stages.

Connor Murphy OLY – Sportsman of the Year

Connor Murphy OLY

In the landmark year, Connor Murphy recorded a personal best of 16.82m in the triple jump—the longest jump by an Australian in 12 years and enough to place him 9th all-time nationally. He won the Australian national title and made his Olympic debut at Paris 2024, becoming the first Australian male to reach an Olympic triple jump final since his father, Andrew Murphy, at Sydney 2000. Connor finished 12th in Paris.

Murphy remained deeply involved with the Sydney Uni Athletics Club (SUAC) off the track. He contributed as a volunteer with RunSydUni, competed for St Andrews College in intercollegiate athletics, and was named SUAC’s 2024 Athlete of the Year.

Rae Anderson & Noémie Fox – Sportswomen of the Year

Rae Anderson PLY

Rae Anderson helped steer the CommBank Para Matildas to a 6-2 win over the USA in Spain’s IFCPF Women’s World Cup final. Alongside her international commitments, she represented Sydney at UniSport Nationals in Futsal, played in the SUSFC Over 30s premiership team, and competed for Sancta Sophia College in Soccer and Athletics.

Her contributions extended beyond athletic performance. Anderson was awarded the Charles Perkin Prize, the Sir Roden Cutler Award, and the Yvonne Swift Individual Achievement Award, recognising her leadership and commitment across university and community life.

Noémie Fox OAM

Noémie Fox, the first Olympic Women’s Kayak Cross champion, won gold at the event’s debut in Paris 2024. She qualified for the Games with a silver medal in Prague and was later named GQ’s Breakthrough Sportsperson of the Year.

Alongside her sister Jessica, Fox was awarded the Don Award for inspiring the nation – one of Australian sport’s highest individual honours. Her Olympic success reflects years of consistent elite performance and discipline as a Sydney alumna.

From everyone here at Sydney Uni Sport we would like to congratulate Connor, Rae and Noémie on an outstanding achievement.
