The Australian Short Track Athletics Championships debuted spectacularly earlier this month at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre.
Olympians Connor Murphy and Liam Adcock headlined the day with stellar performances. Murphy claimed the Men’s Triple Jump title with an impressive leap of 15.99m (-0.1) on his first attempt, while Adcock soared to victory in the Men’s Long Jump, opening his season with a remarkable 7.97m (-0.1) jump.
In the Women’s Long Jump, Alyssa Lowe returned to form, securing 3rd place with a leap of 6.16m. In the Men’s High Jump, Jonathan Titmarsh (2.05m) and in the women’s, Alex Harrison (1.79m) secured 3rd place.
On the track, Isaac Kwan clocked an impressive 7.03 seconds in the Men’s 60M. Aaron Jeffrey clinched 2nd in the Men’s 400M Hurdles, finishing in 54.86 seconds, while the men’s and women’s relay teams placed 4th (3:25.60) and 3rd (4:10.81) in their respective 4x400M relays. In middle-distance action, Guillaume Boglioni Beaulieu crossed the line in 2nd place in the Men’s 1500M, clocking a time of 4:22.27.
Isaac Kwan raced to 7.03 in the men’s 60M. In the Men’s 100M, Shakti Rathore and Jack D’Arcy posted times of 11.06 seconds and 11.50 seconds, respectively. Meanwhile, Eliza Da Silva achieved a personal best of 12.06 seconds in the Women’s 100M, edging closer to breaking the sub-12 barrier, while her fellow teammate, Christine Lucantonio, finished with a time of 12.98 seconds.
In the field, Avilash Tharmanesan placed 5th in the Men’s Shot Put with a throw of 11.31m.
Overall it has been an exceptional few months for SUAC with many PB broken over the season and many more to come over the coming weeks.
