Australian hockey stars Alice Arnott and Greta Haynes, have been reselected for the prestigious Hockeyroos squad for 2025, capping off an impressive year for the duo. Their continued presence in the national set up reflects their standout performance on and off the field.

Alice Arnott, with 22 international caps and 8 goals to her name, has proven herself as the rising star in her debut year with the Hockeyroos. The 25 year-old forward made waves at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where she emerged as the team’s leading scorer, even netting four goals in just five matches. Her precision and flair in attacking circles left fans and opponents in awe, marking her as one of the standout performers.

Earlier in the year, Alice also showcased her brilliance in the FIH Pro League campaign in India, earning Player of the Match honours twice. These accolades underline her consistency and ability to deliver under pressure, making her an invaluable asset to the Hockeyroos as they gear up for a competitive 2025 season.

Midfielder Greta Hayes, a stalwart of the Hockeyroos with 51 caps and 2 goals, continues to bring her wealth of experience to the squad. Since her debut in 2019, Greta has been a cornerstone of the team, featuring in some of the biggest events in world hockey, including the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the 2022 Commonwealth Games (where the Hockeyroos clinched silver), and the 2022 World Cup (where they earned bronze).

Off field, Greta’s influence is equally remarkable. In 2024, she was named Pride in Sport Australia’s LGBTQ+ Role Model of the Year, a testament to her dedication to fostering inclusivity with hockey as well as the wider sporting community. Greta’s advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and her roles as a visible, proud representative have inspired countless athletes, adding another layer of significance to her re-selection.

As the Hockeyroos prepare for another competitive year, the selection of Alice and Greta reinforces the team’s blend of youthful energy and seasoned expertise. With Alice’s sharp attacking instincts and Gretas’s composure and leadership from the midfield, the squad is poised to tackle the challengers of 2025 with determination and confidence.

From everyone here at Sydney University Sport we would like to congratulate both on this well deserved recognition- Australia will be cheering you on every step of the way.
