Over the past weekend, Sydney University Athletics Club delivered an electrifying performance at the NSW State Relay Championship, held at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre (SOPAC) from November 15th to 17th. Over three action-packed days, SUAC showcased their depth of talent, spirit of teamwork and camaraderie, underscoring the club’s tradition of excellence in athletes.

84 athletes donned the blue and gold, across 42 teams in various events. The competition saw:

  • 10 field relays
  • 4 mixed relays
  • 12 track relays
  • 18 women’s teams
  • 19 men’s teams

Despite many students juggling the pressures of exams, the commitment and dedication to their club were evident. Athletes stepped out of their comfort zones, competing in events they wouldn’t usually undertake to support their teammates and contribute to the collective effort with that said by the end of the weekend, this being solidified through SUAC bringing home 17 medals including:

  • 5 – 1st Place
  • 8- 2nd Place
  • 4 – 3rd Place

The SUAC roster boasted an impressive array of talent, including:

Mackenzie Little, a Tokyo Olympic Javelin finalist, continues to inspire with exceptional performances, as well as Olympians Connor Murphy and Allanah Pitcher; World Junior representatives Mitch Hatfield and Allegra McGivern also lead the way, showing the future of Australian athletics with their standout performances.

On day 2 of the event, Alex Harrison, an Oceania Championships representative,  set a personal best by soaring to a new height of 1.85m in the High Jump. This milestone marked a significant achievement in her career and added extra excitement to an already special weekend.

The weekend truly reflected SUAC’s core values. Competing at such a high level while balancing the pressures of exams highlighted the athletes’ resilience and dedication to their sport and teammates.

Behind these remarkable performances is a strong foundation built by the club’s leadership, coaching staff, and support team, who have cultivated an environment where athletes can excel both on the track and in life. From Olympians to rising stars, SUAC continues to be a beacon of Australian athletes, proving that success is driven by talent and a shared commitment to excellence.
