Congratulations to Sydney University Elite Athlete Belinda Ji, who was crowned the South Australian Amateur champion at Kooyonga Golf Club after an intense final match against Ella Scaysbrook late last month.
The unmissable action went down to the last hole. Ji emerged victorious after going back and forth, being 1-up at the end of the eighteenth. The conditions weren’t in favour with harsh winds. Belinda showed her skills under pressure and prevailed in the end.
Speaking with Belinda about the win, saying “It was more of a relief after having four very close games that came down to the last hole. I was really proud of how I handled myself during the week and what we could do, which was to have control of my game and follow the process. It was very satisfying to be able to win this championship.”
Furthermore, “Golf is often seen as a mental game, and how you train your mind for a match that could have gone either way, you need to stay composed whilst under pressure.”
Belinda is a member of the Elite Athlete Program, studying for a Bachelor of Commerce, and has been at the University of Sydney since 2021. Playing golf for over 15 years was one of her many hobbies growing up, including playing three different instruments. Belinda’s idol is fellow Australian professional golfer Minjee Lee and how she plays and can control her game.
Belinda is also one of the three Female Amateur Player of the Year finalists at the Golf NSW Industry Awards Night on November 11th.
Everyone at Sydney University Sport congratulates Belinda on her significant win and will be watching very closely, supporting her ambitions to become a professional golfer as soon as she completes her degree at the end of the year.
