Blackwell is now the Sydney University Women’s Head Coach who played her Premier cricket in Sydney, first playing at Gordon CC. Alex then helped form a new club called the University Women’s Cricket Club (a combination of UNSW and the University of Sydney). Playing a part in UWCC for many years, whilst also having an incredible international career spanning 15 years, playing 251 matches for Australia across Test, One-day Internationals, and Twenty20 formats.
An excellent middle-order batsman, scoring three ODI centuries, two of them in 2008, and her highest international score of 114 against India in 2016.
Blackwell was a prolific run-scorer for the NSW Breakers between 2001 and 2018, being the leading run-scorer and winning thirteen Women’s National Cricket titles and an incredible seven as captain.
In the later parts of her career, Alex captained the Sydney Thunder, who won the inaugural Women’s Big Bash League in 2015. Later on the Thunder WBBL Player of the Year award is now named after Alex for her outstanding contribution to the game.
Alex was also the first woman elected to the Cricket NSW Board as an advocate for diversity and inclusion within the sport.
The criteria for induction include that an athlete who has achieved at the highest level of their sport is then selected for induction by the Minister of Sport following the recommendations from the Hall of Champions Selection Committee.
