A dominant performance with the bat has seen Sydney University 1st grade have a big win away against the might of Sutherland.
After the Students won the toss and elected to bowl, Kieran Tate was able to break through taking one of Sutherlands openers early. This is where Sutherland began to dig deep with a partnership worth 152, putting the home side in good stead for a big final 10 overs.
This was before Cameron Frendo was able to take a crucial breakthrough with the scores at 2/175. With some good bowling and excellent fielding the Students were able to hold out, keeping Sutherland to 4/237 after their 50 overs. Opening bowlers Will Salzmann and Kieran Tate were the picks of the bowlers with Salzmann with 1/41 off his 10 overs and Tate taking 2/57 off his 10 overs.
Chasing 237 for the win the Students got off to a shaky start losing 2/9 in quick sensation. Both teams innings much alike as Jack Attenborough and Tim Cummins were able to solidify the innings, with some excellent and powerful shots all around the ground.
With both players well and truly having their eye in. Attenborough made his way to 79 off only 74 with a strike rate of 106.75, hit 8 fours and 2 sixes, before he was finally out caught and bowled.
This would be the last wicket the Students would lose as a captain’s knock from Damien Mortimer hit an unbeaten 49 off 50 balls to complement a superb innings by Tim Cummins who also was not out with a classy 92.
