The University of Sydney has done it once more, winning the UniSport Overall Champion University title for the 15th time in its history and for the 5th year in a row!
This exciting news comes after a fantastic showing at the UniSport Nationals in Canberra, which took place from Sept 7th to Sept 13th.
This year’s competition was a testament to the university’s sporting excellence, with over 530 of our athletes representing us across 27 sports and 48 teams. Our athletes not only showcased their skill and dedication but also secured a remarkable number of victories and strong results.
A Year in Review:
In 2024, over 720 of our athletes competed across 61 teams at 9 different UniSport Nationals events. This year, we also made notable achievements beyond Nationals in Canberra.
We earned two Silver medals at the Indigenous Nationals and placed well overall in Surfing and Swimming Nationals.
Despite the challenges of a rain-affected T20 competition, our teams had a positive showing, showcasing their resilience and skill.
Additionally, our Cross-Country team achieved remarkable overall results in Tasmania and while it wasn’t a pennant event, it’s a testament to the strength and dedication of our athletes.
Over the weekend, we also had a strong showing at the Distance Running Nationals during the Sydney Marathon and are hopeful to secure the Men’s and Women’s pennants there as well.
Canberra Highlights:
While down in Canberra, our teams secured pennants in a range of sports, including:

- Football – Women
- Futsal – Men
- Kendo – Men & Women
- Netball – Mixed
- Rowing – Women
- Squash – Mixed
- Table Tennis – Men & Women
- Tennis – Men
In addition to our success in Canberra, our athletes competed in various other Nationals events throughout the year. We secured further victories in:
- Athletics – Men & Women
- 3×3 Basketball – Men & Women
These triumphs contributed to our impressive total of 16 pennants for the year. Our closest rivals managed to win only 9 pennants, solidifying our position as the UniSport Overall Champion University for 2024.
