Sydney University AFL club still has three teams grand final bound after the second round of finals football on the weekend.
The Men’s Division One side and the Men’s Under 19 Divisions One and Two sides kept the premiership hopes alive while the Men’s Premier Division and the Women’s Third Division teams bowed out.
After finishing third on the ladder, the Men’s Division One side accounted for the Camden Cat on Saturday with a 52-24 result to move through to the grand final.
Sydney University led 19-3 at the first break, 27-18 at the main break, and sealed the win with a three-goal third quarter to set up a 46-20 lead at the last break. Michael Nettheim and Nathan Battaglia each bagged doubles, with Edward George, Rohan Watson, and Malcolm Picken also with goals.
SUNFL’s Under 19 Division One side finished second on the ladder behind North Shore Bombers, giving them two chances in the final series. Winning a nail-biting 62-60 result over Pennant Hills in their qualifying final on Saturday.
That win set up a preliminary final with Manly Warringah Wolves next Saturday at Kanebridge Oval. The Division 1 side had nine individual goal scorers Archie Christie-Day, Toby Ryan, Harry McCarthy, Mamadou Faye, Milo Davine, Kobe Banks, Russell Royal, Charles Gilpin, and Owen Thompson.
The University’s Under 19 Division 2 side finished third on the ladder. They accounted for North Shore Bombers 66-40 in their preliminary final on Saturday to advance to the grand final.
Otto Stoltenberg and Tom Connors-Lee each bagged trebles on Saturday with Matthew MacDonald, Toby Connelly, and Sasha Walter adding the other three. The Under 19 Division 2s will meet Camden Cats in the grand final.
SUBFC’s Men’s Premier Division finished 4th on the ladder. They defeated Inner West Magpies 110-40 in their elimination final but unfortunately fell out of contention with a 78-44 semi-final loss to Manly Warringah Wolves.
Meanwhile, SUNFLC’s Women’s Division Three finished 4th on the ladder. They defeated UTS Bats 22-10 in their elimination final but bowed out in a hard-fought contest contention with a 47-22 loss to North Shore Bombers in their semi-final on Saturday.
