Sydney University have fallen short in the Sydney Metropolitan Combined Bronze rugby league competition season decider at the University Football Ground on Saturday.

Polecats started strong, with a few couple of early tries. Before the Students hit back in the 15th minute when halfback Max Linden-Smith backed up some solid hit-ups to break the defensive line and run around to score under the posts. Duly converting his kick from in front for a 12-6 scoreline. A late try to the Polecats, saw them take the lead at the break with the students all to do.

The student came out firing after half-time with both some strong attacking and defensive work keeping the Polecats at bay.

Staging a late come-back started with a great 40-20 from Linden-Smith in the closing stages took the Students to within five metres of the line resulting in winger Jess Rogers-Fellowes scoring in the corner. Unfortunately, time wasn’t on the student’s side with the final score finishing 26-10.

Sydney University did well claiming the minor premiership. Everyone should be commended within the club on a tremendous year as well as a big congratulation to Coach and former long-serving player Jake Vrahnos on his contributions.
