Sydney University Football Club’s Second Colts side claimed the Shell Trophy with a nail-biting 28-26 grand final win over Randwick at Coogee Oval on Sunday.
Having finished minor premiers after 18 rounds. The students defeated Warringah 17-12 in their semi-final and Easts 35-21 in their elimination final to play Randwick in the season decider.
The grand final didn’t disappoint either. The match went down to the wire with the Students prevailing in a four-tries-to-three-tries contest. Tries came from across the forward pack with loosehead prop Lotu Vunipola-Sailosi, tighthead prop Justin Amituanai, flanker Timothy Sekel, and number eight Charles Bull each crossing the line.
Meanwhile, fly-half James Beverely showcased his pinpoint accuracy, converting all four tries to secure crucial points that ultimately led to the separation between both sides. This ensured that they would lift the Shell Trophy after a terrific season. A massive congratulations go out to all the players and staff who were involved in this incredible triumph.
Our Third Colts also played in the earlier fixture against East in the Bill Simpson Shield, unfortunately for the Students we were beaten on the day with a strong display from East winning 36-15.
