Sydney University’s First Grade rugby league side are hoping to finish the season on top of the Sydney Metropolitan Combined Bronze competition when they take on TAFE Polecats in the grand final on Saturday.

Having finished minor premiers, the Students earned the right to host the season decider, which will take place at the University Football Ground from 2.00pm.

Coached by former long-serving club player Jake Vrahnos, Sydney University accounted for Alexandria Rovers 28-nil in their preliminary-final to earn a grand final berth.

Captained by second-rower Miles Fowler with halfback Max Linden-Smith serving as his deputy, Sydney University and the Polecats finished the 15-match season-proper, including two byes and a wash-out with eight wins apiece, but University claimed the minor premiership with a better for and against record.

The finished with 340 points while conceding just 58, while the Polecats finished 333-64.
