Sydney University Football Club will field 8 of their 10 teams in the semi-finals this weekend.
The 7 men’s teams ended the 18-game season proper with a clean sweep over Eastwood on Saturday, with Second and Fourth grades to contest the semi-finals along with the three Colts grades. The two women’s teams went through the season proper undefeated to collect the minor premierships.
After losing the first three rounds of the season, the men’s First Grade accounted for Eastwood 38-17 at the weekend to finish seventh on the Shute Shield ladder. Eastern Suburbs won the minor premiership on (68) points, with Warringah (67), Randwick (66), Gordon (66), Northern Suburbs (63) and Manly (63) making up the top six, Second Grade finished third in the Colin Caird Shield on 66 points behind Eastern Suburbs (76) and Randwick (69, with Gordon (63), Northern Suburbs (59) and Manly (57) making up the top six. They’ll meet Gordon at Pittwater Park in their semi-final on Sunday.
Third Grade finished seventh and missed out on a finals berth in the Henderson Shield, while Fourth Grade finished fifth in the Henderson Cup behind Eastern Suburbs, Northern Suburbs, Warringah, and Gordon, with Manly making up the top six. They’ll meet Norths at Coogee Oval in their semi-final on Saturday.
First Colts finished second on the McMahon Shield table behind Eastern Suburbs, with Gordon, Randwick, Warringah, and Manly making up the top 6. They’ll meet Warringah at Pittwater Rugby Park in their semi-final on Saturday. Second Colts won the minor premiership in the Shell Trophy competition, with Gordon, Randwick, Eastern Suburbs, Eastwood, and Warringah making up the top 6. They’ll meet Warringah in their semi-final at Pittwater. While Third Colts finished second behind Eastern Suburbs in the Bill Simpson Shield, with Gordon, Southern Districts, Warringah, and Manly making up the top 6. They’ll also meet Warringah at Pittwater on Saturday.
In the Sydney Women’s Rugby competition, Sydney University Firsts finished the Premier XV Cup season unbeaten after 15 rounds to claim the minor premiership, with Manly, Wildfires, and Warringah making up the top four. They’ll meet Warringah in their semi-final at St Luke’s North, Concord on Saturday, with Manly and Wildfires contesting the other semi-final.
Sydney University also topped the table in the Xs (10-a-side) competition. They’ll meet Easts in one semi-final, with Eastwood and University of Wollongong contesting the other.
