A 43-year-old Australian record has been broken by Sydney Uni Athletic Club’s Catriona Bisset in the 800m, who finished second at the London Diamond league.
She surpassed former Commonwealth Games gold medallist Charlene Rendina’s record of 1:59.0 with a rapid time of 1:58.78, which also saw Bisset achieve a Tokyo qualifier.
Bisset stayed right up the heels of Britain’s Lynsey Sharp, who grabbed the win in 1:58.61.
Only a fornight ago, Bisset was wrapped in gold after winning the 800m at the World University Games in Napoli, and a few weeks earlier she was victorious in the same race at the Oceania Championsips in Townsville.
She is the first Australian woman in 11 years to break the two-minute barrier in the 800m.
