Three Sydney University Women’s Water Polo Club members have been selected in the Aussie Stingers squad to attend a camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra. Keeja Gofers, Isobel Bishop and Hannah Buckling will join the squad ahead of the FINA World League Super Finals to be held in Kunshan, China from May 28.
Sydney University’s, Gofers, Bishop and Buckling were members of the Australian team who won silver at the FINA Inter-Continental Cup tournament, granting the team qualification for the Super Finals. Each have vast experience, having represented Australia on many occasions. Since making their senior international debut in 2010, for Gofers and Bishop and 2011, for Buckling, they have competed in various World League tournaments, World Championships and all three were members of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games team.
They were also integral members of the Sydney University Lions team this year. Despite finishing the regular National League season in fourth place, the team made a great run in finals to make the Championship game. The Lions, who were defending Champions, were eventually defeated by UNSW, 5-4, in a nail-biting encounter.
The Aussie Stingers final team is set to be announced next week, following the camp in Canberra.
