Sydney University’s first innings win over second-placed Gordon at Chatswood Oval on Saturday reinstated them to the top six in the Belvidere Cup First Grade competition.

While Ryan Carters starred on day one with 113 in Sydney University’s competitive total of 340, young leg-spinner Devlin Malone dominated day two with 5-78 off 24 overs.

The 18-year-old has collected 22 wickets in his six First Grade outings with the Students, and 31 overall taking in Poidevin-Gray and Twenty20 matches.

Malone and Ben Joy (2-46) helped Sydney University skittle Gordon for 249 and collect the first innings points.

The hosts were reeling at 9-121 before No.9 Mason Crane and last man in Matthew Junk put on a last wicket stand of 128.

Crane backed up his 4-112 with the ball to post 80, with 14 boundaries and a six, while Junk remained not out on 61 with nine boundaries.

Northern District head the First Grade ladder on 32 points, with Gordon (31), Sydney (30), Sutherland (25), Bankstown (25) and Sydney University (24) making up the top six.

The very competitive top half of the ladder also has Randwick-Petersham and Eastern Suburbs on 24 points but behind Sydney University on the for and against quotient.

Gordon claimed first innings points in Second and Fifth grade, while Sydney University posted first innings wins in Third and Fourth grades.

The three wins lifted Sydney University to fifth on the Club Championship ladder. Northern District head the ladder on 610 points, with Sydney (598), Gordon (586), Manly-Warringah (534) and Sydney University (514) all in contention.

Sydney University will host Mosman at University Oval in Round 7, two-day fixture on December 3 and 10, with 10-30am starts.
