Universities moved to third place on the Sydney Women’s Premier grade cricket ladder with a nine-wicket win over Campbelltown-Camden at Raby Oval on Sunday.

Having won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first, skipper Maisy Gibson justified the decision when Cambelltown-Camden were rolled for 171 off 50 overs.

Opener Tahlia Wilson topscored for the hosts with a patient 73, while No.4 Lauren Cheatle chipped in with 31.

But the rest of the batting order found it difficult to score off the tight bowling of Shebani Bhaskar (3-18), Nell Gibson (3-20) and Maisy Gibson (2-38) who collected the bulk of the wickets.

Universities then took to the Cambelltown-Camden attack with Georgia Redmayne (32) and Maddy Darke (73 not out) putting on an opening stand of 64, before Darke combined with No.3 Alex Blackwell (54 not out) to reach the target in 34 overs.

Bankstown Sports head the First Grade ladder on 20 points, with Sydney Rangers (18), Universities (14) and Gordon (11) making up the top four.

Universities will host Gordon in a Round 4 fixture at Sydney University Oval this Sunday, starting at 10am.
