Saturday’s Sydney Uni Women’s Rugby 52-10 victory over the 2014 Premiers Oatley (formerly Rockdale) furthered the Club’s mission of retaining their premiership.

Highlights were aplenty in a great game of attacking rugby by the students. From kick off, Oatley muscled up and despite firmly establishing themselves in the opposition’s half, it took quite a while before the Students put points on the board. Iliseva Batibasaga was first to slice through the defence to score beside the posts.

Credit to Oatley who pressured Uni from the restart, where it took time for the Students to get back into the attacking zone.

As the Student’s entered the 20 minute mark in the game it became clear that the back row was dominating. Fi Jones proved an ever present menace at the breakdown, Emily Chancellor assisting Jones and getting herself into some great running lines and Grace Hamilton coming up with powerhouse runs and dominant tackles. This support contributed to Batibasaga’s second try and the Students then stretched the defence again for a third try by Kirrily Laws.

The next twenty minutes saw Ash Hewson directing play, sending the ball wide for Ash Werner to score a double. Eloise Vunakece put the icing on the cake with an outstanding individual try. The forwards then decided that fetching and giving the ball to the backs was great but it was their turn to score, which saw Michelle Bailey cross the line.
