Sydney University’s women’s AFL team turned in a dominant display to rack up a 100-1 win over Macquarie University in the opening round of the 2016 Sydney Women’s Premier Division competition.

Nicola Barr kicked four of Sydney University’s 14 goals, with Meredith Gray opening the season with three goals.

Jennifer Lew, Chloe Scrimshaw, Alice Wood, Jasmine Fergus, Stephanie Walker, Sera Kaukiono and Chiara Binazzi also landed six-pointers in the shellacking.

The Students are still smarting after finishing minor premiers in the 2015 competition only to lose the grand final 40-26 to Newtown Breakaways at Blacktown International Sportspark.

But the Breakaways showed it was no fluke by opening the 2016 season with a 155-20 win over Auburn Giants. In another high-scoring season opener UNSW Eastern Suburbs Stingrays posted a 104-12 win over the Power Wolves.

Sydney University will be up against Auburn Giants at Mona Park in their Round 2 clash this Saturday.
