Sydney University Football Club member Greg Jeloudev has been selected in the 12-man squad to contest the second round of the 2015-16 World Rugby Sevens Series, to be played in Cape Town, South Africa, this weekend.
He’ll join SUFC teammate Tom Kingston, who made his Australian Sevens debut in the opening round of the series, played last week in Dubai, where the Aussies finished sixth.
The Aussies opened the tournament with a 14-12 win over Kenya and a 43-0 win over Wales before losing 21-5 to England in the last pool match.
They then lost 19-12 to Fiji in the Cup quarter-final, relegating them to the Plate, where they defeated Samoa 28-10 in the semi-final before losing 19-14 to South Africa in the final.
Fiji won the Cup final with a 28-17 result over England, while the United States defeated New Zealand 31-12 in the play-off for third.
SUFC’s other Australian Sevens representatives, Ed Jenkins and Pat McCutcheon, are carrying injuries and were not considered for the South African tournament.
Australia has been drawn in Pool C of the Cape Town tournament along with Portugal, Wales and the USA.
