Sydney’s big wet didn’t do the grade cricket competition any favours at the weekend, with most matches abandoned.

Sydney University’s scheduled match against Northern District at Mark Taylor Oval was one of the abandoned Round 5 fixtures.

Despite the wet Spring, Sydney Cricket Club has played all five rounds and earned first innings points in all matches to head the Belvedere Cup ladder on 30 points.

Fairfield-Liverpool (19), St George (18), Northern District (18), Bankstown (18) and Gordon (18) make up the top six, with Sydney University (18) lying in seventh spot.

Sydney University are fifth on the Club Championship ladder on 342 points behind Sydney (414), St George (381), Sutherland (372) and Manly-Warringah (351).

The Students will take on Mosman in a 50-over Round 6 match at Allan Border Oval on Saturday, before returning to the campus on December 5 and 12 for a two-day, Round 7 match against Western Suburbs.

Meanwhile, former SUCC all-round Ian Moran moved to eight place on the all-time leading First Grade run scorers when he scored 103 for Eastern Suburbs against North Sydney at Bon Andrews Oval. Moran has now scored 11,323 First Grade runs.

SUCC’s Greg Mail is the leading First Grade run scorer in the Sydney competition with 14,337.
