Universities openers Georgie Redmayne and Rachel Haynes sent the scorers scurrying for the record books when they put on a 281-run stand against Northern District in a 50-over fixture at the Village Green on Sunday.

Redmayne’s career best 162 not out off 128 deliveries included 20 boundaries, while Haynes clubbed 149 off 115 deliveries, with 18 boundaries.

When Haynes departed at the 2hr 9min mark, Kate Owen joined the runfest to post a 71-run stand with Redmayne. Her unbeaten 53 off 39 deliveries included five boundaries.

Universities finished their 50 overs on 3-407. They then rolled Northern District for 70 to inflict a 337-run defeat.

The Redmayne-Haynes stand is now the second highest in the Sydney Women’s Grade competition.

Haynes and fellow Australian representative Alex Blackwell hold the record with a 387-run opening partnership, also against Northern District, in the opening round of the 2013-14 season.

Blackwell’s 223 surpassed the previous highest individual score, which she held with 181. Her runs came off 138 balls and included 35 boundaries. Her last 50 came off just 18 balls.

It was also the first double century in the women’s grade competition and remarkably came in a 50-over match.

Haynes’s contribution to the partnership was 168 off just 109 deliveries, including 25 boundaries and four sixes.

The Blackwell-Haynes partnership eclipsed the 244-run stand between Gordon’s Hannah Trollip and Lisa Sthalekar against Universities at the start of the 2011-12 season. Blackwell and Haynes had put on a 224-run stand in the same match.

Meanwhile, Universities two Third Grade teams posted wins on Saturday, with Blue accounting for North West Sydney and Gold accounting for Bankstown.

And the Brewer Shield (Under 17) side posted a 100-run win over Parramatta at David Phillips North Oval on Sunday.
