Sydney Uni Boat Club athletes have once again proved themselves on the world stage, claiming medals at the second World Rowing Cup in Varese, Italy, June 18 – 21.
The impressive Nick Wheatley and Jack Hargreaves (Syd Uni) combination split the field in their Men’s pair final to win the bronze. Coached by Mark Prater, the race provides a promising boost ahead of their upcoming U23 and Senior World Championships.
Recently announced as the NSW Oarsman of the Year, Sasha Belonogoff (SUBC) also showed his ability, taking silver in the Men’s double sculls. Along with partner James McRae, the Australian crew was languishing in 6th place through the halfway mark. Well known for his strong finishes, Sasha turned up the stroke notch on the rest of the field, storming through to claim second place.
