Sydney Uni restricted Western Suburbs to 185 in Saturday’s 50-over match at No.1 Oval thanks to a superb 10 overs from Will Somerville. The home side then reached the total in 48 overs with five wickets in hand.
Somerville was wicketless but conceded a mere 23 runs. Nigel Cowell picked up 4-40 off nine overs and Darius Visser 2-32 off eight.
Greg Mail top-scored in Uni’s run chase with 58 not out and was ably supported by Mark Faraday (52) and Tim Ley (34 not out).
Uni remain just outside the top six in the race for Belvidere Cup playoff positions, but with one round remaining are still a good chance of making the finals.
If Uni hit the playoffs with momentum it will send a shiver through the remaining contenders.
