Sydney University’s Under 16 cricket side is two games away from a finals berth in the hotly-contested A.W. Green Shield competition played during the school holidays.

With three wins from their first five matches, Sydney University sit fifth on the ladder, with a qualifying finals spot in their sights.

Unbeaten Penrith lead the competition on 33 points, with Manly-Warringah, also unbeaten, on 32, Bankstown (27), Northern District (26), Sydney University (20) and Mosman (18) making up the top six.

Sydney University meet 19th placed Fairfield-Liverpool at Rosedale Oval tomorrow (Tuesday) and 13th placed Western Suburbs at Sydney University No.1 Oval on Thursday in the final two round matches before the qualifying finals, to determine the top four, are played on January 20.

The semi-finals will be played on January 22, with the final scheduled for Monday, January 26.

Meanwhile, the Sydney Grade competition resumed at the weekend with a round of limited overs matches.

Randwick-Petersham collected the points in First Grade with a 59-run win over Sydney University at University No.1 Oval.

Adam Semple (56) and Shaun Eaton (54) helped the visitors to a solid total of 8-236 after they had been sent in to bat first.

When the Students lost Scott Henry for 85 and Mark Faraday for 47, the writing was on the wall, with Nicholas Stapleton (4-38), Daniel Sams (3-21) and Nathan Ellis (3-29) collecting the spoils.

Sydney University collected the points in Second, Third and Fourth grades, while Randwick-Petersham won the Fifth Grade clash.

Sydney University also won the Metropolitan Cup match against Fairfield-Liverpool at Don Dawson Oval.
